Lesson 22: The Roaring Twenties
-
Summary: In this date the Nineteenth Amendment became part of the United States’ Constitution, guaranteeing women the right to vote. What these activists failed to realize was that the nation was tired of reform. Americans also had no idea that the boom would come to an abrupt end and send the nation into the worst economic crisis it had ever faced. By 1933, the national economy had fallen to its lowest point. In a major reversal from a decade earlier, the nation now looked to a Democrat to actively use the government to intervene in people’s lives, in the desperate hope that he could make them better.
